That's a great idea! Thanks for blogging about it.

The only thing I don't like are the two AA batteries that are necessary (though for three years of sending signals).

The original title of this post was going to be "I TOLD YOU SO"

I believe today is the first day it goes live. I'll try it out for a while and post more details about my experience later.

I guess that'll teach me to not listen to you.

If I remember right, it wasn't that the idea wasn't good. It's that we were busy with lots of other stuff and didn't want to put in the effort if we weren't sure there would be a pay-off.

I imagine that since you can buy just the chip itself you can probably interface with it if you installed it as part of some other device.

When I talked to them on the phone they did talk about how they wanted to get these chips embedded into things like Phones and PDAs.

How could their chip be tied into hardware for gathering fuel levels, temperatures, heart rate, etc? Is there some interface these chips will have to allow this, or are they just thinking way, way ahead?

It's funny, I was thinking about this while standing outside, watching you write this post through your window. Trying to get an early peek at things is more hassle than it's worth most times. To me, the whole iPhone thing just seems like style over substance. I mean, they have done a great job marketing the thing and building up their whole iLife brand but it's just not that big of a deal to me. No one would care nearly as much if it was the exact same product but branded an LG or Samsung.

As far as sales go, I seriously doubt they will sell 10 million this year. I think most of the people that wanted one have one and that it's going to slow down a bit. I think they will get some boost with the new phones, but how many of those will be 1st gen users replacing their original iPhones?

Mostly I just dislike Apple's closed environment. They are defining movements (like the pinch) for multi touch sensors and then patenting them so no one else can use them. Imagine if someone had patented the double click on a mouse. The last thing I want is to have 10 different devices, each with their won way of interacting with the the touch sensors. It's funny to me to see how accepting people will be of such tight control over a product if it is trendy and "cool" enough. I have to hand it to them though, Apple has done one helluva job with their marketing and coming back from some rather dire financial straits over the last 10 years.

Songza did an excellent job. But if you'd like an even simpler method of instant music and building and storing playlists, you'll want to try musicvistas.com.
