This is why I hate the iPhone

The phone itself is a great device. But the company behind the phone makes me very upset. Apple seems to enjoy making things very difficult for developers. First, you can only write applications using a Mac and now they basically don’t let you share anything about developing on the iPhone.
The only reason Apple can even do such things is because they are the only players in the game right now. Google, wake up and jump in already.

I doubt they enjoy making things difficult, as that would not be good for business.
Apple does provide their dev tools (Xcode, iPhone SDK) for free. You can easily download them from their site. There is quite a bit of documentation on their site, as well as podcasts on iTunes (many of these are also free) to get you up and running.
The same issues hold true for other companies as well. For example, I cannot develop .NET applications outside of Windows, unless I use Mono.
Windows Mobile was around long before the iPhone and Android has also been in the game for a while now as well. I admit I don’t own an iPhone, nor would I purchase one (too expensive for me) but they had to do something right for it to reach stardom.
